Prepping for a white Thanksgiving

The U.S. East Coast is getting snow today — heavy, wet stuff, the kind that will be a pain to shovel. I don’t have to worry about that at the moment, though. Instead, I am sitting inside, watching the snow fall.
Cider sits on the stove on low heat, with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg, perfuming the house. My daughter is watching Life in the Dream House with Barbie on Netflix, my son is paying Minecraft with a friend on a server, and my mother-in-law is on the couch, reading an e-book. My husband and father-in-law went out to get my husband’s car from the shop (it needed some joint work?), then stopping at the store to get some last-minute stuff so we can have a pumpkin pie (which the girl prefers to apple pie).
I am free to relax, read, maybe write a little longhand. It’s a pleasant way to spend the day. About the only thing that could make this a better holiday would be for my mom to be here with us to celebrate instead of on the other end of the country.
So as I settle in for the Thanksgiving holiday, I am grateful for all the blessings and the good in my life (which, yes, includes house insurance!), especially my readers. I wish you all a bountiful year to come, whether you’re celebrating this holiday or not.
And don’t forget to stop and watch the snow or smell the flowers, as the case may be.
