more sadness
Sep. 15th, 2006 07:42 pmOur older dog suddenly got sick last week. Well, not sick so much as not all there. She started bumping into things as though she'd gone blind on the one side, and she paced in clockwise circles. We took her to the vet Monday, who ruled out canine vestibular syndrome. The vet agreed that Tira had had some sort of neurological incident. They took blood samples and a bit of skin from a (presumably unrelated, but it never hurts to be sure) patch on her back. Oh, and she had an infection in one ear.
Tira got worse. Wednesday, she ate a few bites of her food in the morning and drank some water later in the day, but not much of that.
Yesterday, the vet called back. Tira had hypothyroidism. The office went ahead and filled a prescription for that, plus a bunch of stuff for the ears. My husband stopped to get it on the way home. (Well, not really on the way, but before coming home.) He got here and went downstairs to check on how Tira was doing; she was completely nonresponsive. So we made the hard decision that it wouldn't be fair to keep her in a suffering state.
... Next year, can I boycott the first half of September? (wry smile)
