Not my month, I guess

Just got word that the grant I applied for--A Room of Her Own Foundation's Gift of Freedom award--went to someone else. Yet again, I didn't even make the finalists list. The next award won't be given until 2009.

*sigh* Back to working for others to make ends meet.

Thanks. It was a long shot--any major grant is--but I knew I wouldn't get it if I didn't apply. I figure I will apply again next time, no matter what happens between now and then. It would've been nice to have the money, though.

Thanks. I'll admit I was sort of hoping that I wouldn't wind up juggling paying work, writing, and the new little one. Such are the vagaries of life.

Yes, this whole "Mom to three kids, including an infant; running a house; and trying to start a writing career" thing is difficult. To say the least. I understand why so many women don't even try it with the little ones, but I guess that's just the way you and I roll. ;)

Well, we'll see how I'm managing come January. I know I *want* to be able to do it all. The question is whether I will be *able* to.

Thanks. Some months, like this one, have enough work that the finances aren't worrisome, but then I have little time and energy for my writing. I'd like to have a balance.

Well, it's been a long, hard month, but look at the bright side. You'll have two years to prepare for the next award. ;)

Right. And maybe I'll have more publication credits by then, so can be taken more seriously. The biographies of the winner and finalists could make me feel inadequate if I worried about it much.
