From About.com. I'd applied to be a guide for the Consulting/Freelancing topic. I've been running a freelance business for seven years now, so I have a few things to say on the subject. Sadly, they have chosen someone else.
However, given that I'd already put some thought into an anchoring article or two and some blog posts, I'm going to go ahead and write them. (Yeah, yeah--another writing project. Can never have too many, as
slobbit said to me.) I have a Website for my business. When I have some initial content ready to go, I'll set up a blog there using either Wordpress or Movable Type and set it in motion. Once I'm sure it's running without glitches, I'll send a promotional postcard to my clients, inviting them to check it out.
I won't be paid for my blogging, as I would if I were working for About.com, but it might drive traffic to my site, which can result in more work. That's the plan, anyway.
It would have been nice to have gotten the gig. It's a guaranteed $725 a month, with the possibility of more depending on topic popularity. I don't have enough expertise on any of their available topics to apply again at the moment. You might check it out to see what's there, though, and whether you can contribute--
underpope, they have Sacramento, CA as a topic. Best of luck to anyone who follows up on it.

Date: 2007-06-29 06:56 pm (UTC)I looked at their list a while ago -- it's a lot longer now, with all the UK openings. I wouldn't min dwriting about breastfeeding, one of the topics, but I'm not a lactation consultant, pity.

Date: 2007-06-29 07:06 pm (UTC)That is a pity. Still, it's probably worth checking out the list every month or so to see what might have been added.
