core differences
Oct. 11th, 2008 04:14 pmI was thinking about the difference between politics and writing fiction. No, it's not the believability of the fictions.
Some people start writing because they read something and think, "I can do better than that." But generally speaking, writers do not think that everyone else should stop writing.
If one runs for President, however, a person not only thinks she is good, she has to believe that she is the best--that no one else deserves that position. Talk about your hubris! I really can't imagine being that convinced of my superiority. Elitism? Yep. Every person who decides to run is guilty of it on some level, of believing that he alone knows what the best thing is for everybody else in America. But "there can be only one."
(Now, having made that last reference, I really want someone with more video skills than I have--which is pretty much everyone--to make a Quickening video after election day!)
