Okay, after having protested that I'm not weird, it's the rest of the world, I'm doing this.
Ground Rules: The first player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits of yours" and people who get tagged need to write a LJ entry about their 5 quirky habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.
1. I use mouthwash and brush my hair at the same time; I count strokes of the hair brush to keep track of how long I've had the Listerine in my mouth.
2. I garden by the principle that there is no such thing as too many daffodils.
3. I almost always say yes to more paying work, even when I know that it will leave me triple-booked and low on sleep. (And I always say I won't do it again.)
4. When visiting other people, I pick up books they've left lying around and start reading, often preferring the book to conversation.
5. At any given time, I have a book I am in the progress of reading in at least 5 rooms of the house.
Right, so now I'm supposed to tag people. Okay, no idea at the moment who's already done this meme, although I know it's been around a while. So if you've already done it, feel free to ignore me. Tag, you're it,
bonniers,
adais,
chanphenglew,
touch_of_ink, and
hookedoncoffee.

I just cut out the middleman, and don't visit people at all. :-)

Date: 2006-02-24 05:32 am (UTC)But, for a specific example, at New Year's, we were at my in-laws, and we went with them to a New Year's party at their friends' house. I've been to this house many times, been to more than one of their parties. I spent more time reading the books on the coffee table than talking to people. (I really wanted to stay home and read Old Man's War, but that would've been rude. ;-) )

Date: 2006-02-24 07:14 pm (UTC)I've just got the leaning tower of pizza book pile on the dresser in the bedroom, the top two are current reads, next one is a frequent read, two more miscellaneous and a healthy cookbook I mean to look at as the base.
Re: *smile*
Date: 2006-02-25 03:12 pm (UTC)My living room pile, in addition to Art of Fiction by Gardner and Nova by Samuel Delany, includes 13 Ways of Looking at the Novel by Jane Smiley. Um, those are the ones I'm reading. The library books that I haven't cracked yet include a book on writing by Bradbury (not the Zen one), one by Margaret Atwood, a book by Robert Bly on SF advances that have been made in real life, and a fiction one by Robin Hobb that I read the first few pages of and wasn't charmed by the voice, so am debating reading at least the first couple chapters to see if she grabs me.
Re: *smile*
Date: 2006-02-25 07:46 pm (UTC)& Art of Fiction is in my game room pile. Along with Where Last the Sweet Birds Sang and Kit's Wilderness. Okay, I've got little leaning towers all over the house too. And don't think I have print-induced deafness, but if you ask Jerome...

Date: 2006-02-26 06:38 am (UTC)Not true any more, though. Have to keep an ear open at all times with a little one in the house. Otherwise, I'd only read when he's asleep.
I was thinking this week I might try to post what's in my "current" pile in each room, as well as, say, the top 20 or so on shelves that are TBR as soon as I get around to them, like Gun, Germs, and Steel.
Re: *smile*
Date: 2006-02-26 09:07 am (UTC)& I'd certainly read a list of your TBR books - I can't walk around your house and look at your bookshelves without a plane ticket, but hey, all writers look at the bookshelves whenever they enter someone's house or apartment for the first time. I didn't think I did that, but um, I was lying to myself.
